Happy Mother’s Day to the strongest woman I know. I don’t what I’d do without her, I love her so much. She’s helped me grow up and be the young lady I am today. He’s all grown up now. He’s fourteen. He’s a bit too skinny and arrogant, but he looks just like you. He hates the sea. Ever since he was a child he cried when the sand got between his toes. I’ve done something wrong. I know it.

He refused his dinner again tonight. I don’t know what else to do. I hear your voice in the wind. I followed it to the water where it stopped. Someone is onshore calling to me but I can’t tell who it is. Your trident is heavy in my hand as I dive beneath the waves searching. I don’t know what you expect me to find.

Each time I go deeper until I can hardly rise to the surface in time for more air. The yelling is getting louder. Please make it stop, Finnick. Tell them to go away.

Something red is in the water.

No, the water itself is red. Scrambling to get back to shore and out of the blood. It’s everywhere. It’s in my hair and eyes. Finnick, it’s in my mouth! Help me!

Dragged back by this current I can no longer see the house. Unable to breathe or free myself I’m losing strength. All I can see are glowing yellow eyes. These eyes laugh at me, Finnick. Whose eyes are they? They don’t look normal.

I scream only to find myself warm and in bed. Finn has crawled in next to me and is saying nice things to me. ”You were dreaming, mother. It’s alright, mother.”

I look to him and ask the question I always ask. ”Whose eyes are the yellow ones?”

“I don’t know, mother.”

I know he knows. He won’t tell me. None of them will tell me. All they say is not to worry about them. They can’t hurt anyone anymore. Who did they hurt? I think I know the answer but Finn hands me my medicine and tells me to rest. He’ll make sure I’m ok.

I take the pills and lay my head down. I thought I saw you at the foot of the bed. The wind whispers to me again with your voice. ”Annie…”

I’m so tired of these, I wake up feeling more exhausted than before.

I don’t like being so scared and beaten down like this, by my own brain.

And I can’t even fight back.
